‘FCT would decide naira marley’s fate’ – PTF

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has expressed displeasure over Saturday eventheld in Abuja despite the ban on large gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The PUNCH reports that hip-hop artiste, Azeez Fashola, alias Naira Marley, held a concert at the Jabi Lake Mall on Saturday in contravention of the PTF directive geared towards curbing the spread of the virus. The event, which had a lot of people in attendance, has come under intense criticisms lately. PTF National Coordinator, Sani Aliyu, noted during a briefing on Monday that the PTF supports any sanctionagainst the musician.

Aliyu, however, stated that the Federal Capital Territory Administration will take the decision on whether to penalise the artiste or not. He said, “With regards to the fate of Naira Marley, I believe the FCT authorities have already taken action – with regards to the chief organisers. “But the decision on whether or not he will face penalties etc is actually a decision of the FCT authorities. The PTF will always support any measures taken against people who continue to violate the guidelines we have put in place, particularly if they are putting public health at risk.” Also, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu, said the Centre has no plan to trace the attendees of the event.

Ihekweazu said, “On the plan whether we are going to track the people that came for the Naira Marley concert, no; we are a lot more important work to do than to do that but if we have a positive from that community, we have a problem. We do have a problem if we have someone that went to that gathering and turn positive. We hope that doesn’t happen.”

Bruno Fernandes’s penalty hamds United a first home win in a match of two penalties

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer concedes his side were ‘lucky’ that West Brom had a penalty decision overturned in their 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, Slaven Bilic’s side were awarded a spot-kick early in the second half after referee David Coote ruled that Bruno Fernandes had fouled Conor Gallagher in the box.

VAR however intervened with the decision eventually changed after Coote reviewed the incident on the sideline. Replays suggested Fernandes did make some contact with the ball before the man.

The Red Devils made the most of the call and were themselves awarded a penalty 10 minutes later which Fernandes tucked away at the second time of asking after his first attempt was saved only for goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to be caught coming of his line.

Solskjaer, referencing Aston Villa’s similarly overturned last-minute spot-kick in their 2-1 home defeat to Brighton earlier on Saturday, told BT Sport he thought both penalties should have been awarded.

He said: “I looked at the penalty this afternoon at Villa-Brighton, and there’s contact on the ball and the man. In my head, it might be a penalty, and there as well.

With this victory, United see themselves in the top half of the table for the first time this seasin with 13 points from 9 games at 8th position.

While for West Brom, they remain in the bottom three with only 3 points.

United will host Istanbul Basaksehir midweek, while also to play away to Southampton on Sunday.
