Man Utd ‘to compete with Bayern & PSG for Madrid maestro Kroos’ in summer

Manchester United are eyeing a summer move for Real Madrid star Toni Kroos, but face some stiff competition, according to reports.

United are targeting at least three signings when the transfer window reopens and midfield is one of the areas that may see improvement, especially with the uncertain future of Paul Pogba.

United are interested in Leicester City attacker James Maddison and Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, and have scouted Donny van de Beek of Ajax.

The latest midfielder to be linked with a move to Old Trafford is Kroos, who is enjoying one of his finest seasons at Madrid.

According to Spanish publication Diario Madridista, the German is happy at the Bernabeu but was left frustrated by being left out of the side who lost to Manchester City in the Champions League and has now opened the door to a departure.

However, his former club Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested and the 30-year-old is contracted at Madrid until 2023 with a reportedly massive release clause.

Regardless, Kroos goes against United’s new remit of signing young, talented and preferably British players so any move seems unlikely.

A younger option, like Birmingham City prodigy Jude Bellingham, who visited the United training ground on Monday as he assesses his options ahead of a summer move, would appear more plausible.

Meanwhile, United are the front runners to complete a deal for midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to Sky Germany via the Daily Star.

The Borussia Monchengladbach star, 23, is reportedly on the radar of Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, but it’s claimed United are at the front of the queue.

Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl recently gave an update on Zakaria’s future and sounded confident about keeping him.

Chris Wilder’s men were unable to hold on to their lead beyond the 41st minute after tapping into the net from close range. The Brazilian superstar benefited from a poor save by Aaron Ramsdale after Sadio Mane tried heading home an equaliser four minutes before half time. Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead for the first time in the 63rd minute but his goal was chopped off for offside.
