Wait!!!! Was Everton Goal Really Offside?: Let’s Check The Offside Rules

Published

on

There was moment of drama towards the end of the Everton vs Manchester United Game at Goodison Park in Merseyside, Everton believed they had won the game before the goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). The Goal was initially given by the referee but was later ruled out leading to a lot of argument between fans. The question is was the goal really offside?

The Play

Maguire diverted a shot from Calvert Lewin inyo his own goal and the goal should have count if you are to argue it Sigurdsson was quick to avoid any touch with the ball. The question is was that enough? If there was no referee it would have been. The video Assistant Referee ruled out Lewin’s goal due to obstruction of the Opposition Goalkeeper veiw by Sigurdsson while on the floor and thereby resulting to a goal.

The Goalkeeper Argument

Sigurdsson was already in an offside Position and could have been touched by the deflected ball but instead he moved his leg. The moment he moved his leg he has interfere in the play because this affected the Judgement of the goalkeeper thereby obstructing him from knowing the direction the ball was heading to.

Was the VAR decision right?

Yes,very correct . let’s take a look at FIFA take on offside

What the Fifa Rule says about it

It is codified in Law 11 of the Law of Football and has been modified on several basis.

Emphasy was layed on the 2003 offside rule and its modifications of 2005 that interfering with an opponent”, and “gaining an advantage” is an offside offence for players in offside position. Even though the two concept were not clearly define.

Was Sigurdsson Guilty of this two Charges?

Yes, Sigurdsson was guilty as Charged. He interfered in the play by lifting his leg and obstructing the Goalkeeper and leading to a goal which is a great advantage to Everton.

Even VAR decision at times this season has been subjected to question, they even accepted at a point last week that one of their decision was wrong but for this they are very right and we can’t say anything about it.

Thank you🤝🤝🤝

Ajax recorded the biggest victory in the history of the Eredivisie with a 13-0 thrashing of VVV Venlo as they reclaimed top spot above rivals PSV.

It was the biggest winning margin in Dutch topflight history, surpassing Ajax’s own 12-1 win over Vitesse in May 1972. Lassina Traore, 19, scored five goals as veteran Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored a brace in the whitewash. The Amsterdam giants were 4-0 up in the first half with goals from midfielder Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, Traore’s brace, and former Southampton star Dusan Tadic also got his name on the scoresheet. But the defending champions came out smoking in the second half scoring nine goals to further humiliate their opponents. After Christiaan Kum’s sending off in the 52nd minute, things went from bad to worse for VVV as Ajax scored five goals in 11 minutes.

Traore completed his hat-trick before setting up Brazilian star Antony in the 55th minute. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp grabbed his brace two minutes later before Daley Blind made it 8-0. Lassina Traore added his fourth before Jan Huntelaar made it 10-0 from a spot-kick. The former Real Madrid man made it 11-0 in the 76th minute.

Lisandro Martinez and Traore scored the last two goals of the match as the Dutch giants bounced back from their midweek Champions League defeat to Liverpool.
